All Tricare plans include coverage for breastfeeding moms, including Tricare Prime, Tricare Select, the US Family Health Plan, and Tricare Reserve Select. Coverage is guaranteed whether your sponsor is active duty, retired, or in the Guard or Reserves.
Tricare covers any Tricare-eligible female who is pregnant, who has given birth, or who has legally adopted a child and intends to breastfeed.
While your prescription must specify manual or standard electric pump, Tricare does not require you to specify a particular brand, model, or style. You may choose whichever pump works best for your circumstances.
Ask your Tricare-authorized doctor, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse midwife to provide a prescription with a diagnosis code.
All new moms who are Tricare-eligible are authorized one manual or standard electric breast pump per birth or adoption. If your infant is in NICU or is unable to breastfeed for medical reasons, Tricare will cover an electric hospital-grade breast pump and supplies.
