What Tricare plans offer breast pump coverage?

All Tricare plans include coverage for breastfeeding moms, including Tricare Prime, Tricare Select, the US Family Health Plan, and Tricare Reserve Select. Coverage is guaranteed whether your sponsor is active duty, retired, or in the Guard or Reserves.

Who is eligible for Tricare breast pump coverage?

Tricare covers any Tricare-eligible female who is pregnant, who has given birth, or who has legally adopted a child and intends to breastfeed.

What breast pump brands does Tricare cover?

While your prescription must specify manual or standard electric pump, Tricare does not require you to specify a particular brand, model, or style. You may choose whichever pump works best for your circumstances.

How do I get my Tricare-covered breast pump?

Ask your Tricare-authorized doctor, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or nurse midwife to provide a prescription with a diagnosis code.

What breastfeeding equipment does Tricare cover?

All new moms who are Tricare-eligible are authorized one manual or standard electric breast pump per birth or adoption. If your infant is in NICU or is unable to breastfeed for medical reasons, Tricare will cover an electric hospital-grade breast pump and supplies.

In addition to breast pumps, Tricare covers some breastfeeding supplies for 36 months after your child’s birth or adoption, including:

  • Standard power adapters
  • Tubing and tubing adaptors
  • Locking rings
  • Bottles and bottle caps
  • Shield/splash protectors
  • Storage bags
  • One breast pump kit per birth event
